Books for an 18-yr-old woman with Down's Syndrome
"I'm looking for books that are suitable for my 18-yr-old daughter with learning disabilities (reading ability of a 3/4-yr-old, interests of a teenager/young woman). Any suggestions? She has not progressed beyond the first level of the Oxford Reading Tree. She enjoys reading, but would enjoy books more if they were age-relevant. She has Down's Syndrome." anonymous web site user

Student with SLD
"We have a pupil with SLD who has just transferred to the secondary phase. He can read some of the YrR high frequency words and is learning to read and spell cvc words. He is currently reading Stage 2 of Oxford Reading Tree. I would be grateful if anyone could suggest other reading material at the same level but more suitable for the interests of a Year 7 pupil. In fact, does this type of material exist?!" anonymous web site user

Published author seeks support for new series
"I have written a picture story book called My Best Friend is Deaf, about the primary age experience of meeting a deaf child for the first time in mainstream school. I also have ideas for follow ups such as My Best Friend is in a Wheelchair. These have been rejected by mainstream publishers with such comments as "great idea, but not for us" "worthwhile but not commercial" etc. As my own son is deaf, autistic, and has other disabilities (and as I am a published writer) I feel strongly that such books should be "out there". If anyone may have any interest in my series, let me know. Dee Gordon (Southend on Sea)." Dee Gordon

Accessible library
"I'm a school librarian trying to make the ordering of our library (Middle School, 9-13yrs, Dewey decimal system) accessible to SEN children. I'm looking for guidance on types of pictures to use, size & style of typeface, etc. Couldn't find anything on librarians' websites! All help appreciated." Rosalind Jensen

Workshop at Greewich Junior School
"I had a great time at the workshop. It was good to meet all the children as I a writer, who writes books with deaf heroes, as I am deaf myself, so do not get into schools very often. I was a teacher for the deaf so I miss them all.
I love the Quentin Blake Project.
